New Pilot Initiative Turns Ultrasound Scans Into 3D-Printed Moulds For Parents With Sight Loss

New initiative by Guide Dogs aims to use ultrasound scans to create bespoke 3D-printed moulds for parents with sight loss and their family members with impaired vision. The bespoke sonograms are created using a 20-week 2D ultrasound scan, transformed into a render and 3D printed. For the initial pilot, around 50 moulds will be available for purchase. Kerry Bevan, head of support services at Guide Dogs, said the project aims to break down barriers and empower individuals to live life's important firsts. The launch follows a survey by Guide Dog of 2,000 adults in the UK, which found 54% felt standard format pregnancy scans should be more inclusive.
