Ledyard Bank President and CEO Josephine Moran Earns Prestigious Industry Recognition for 2026

Josephine Moran, President and CEO of Ledyard Bank, has been named to American Banker's 2026 list of The Most Powerful Women in Banking: Women to Watch. The recognition ranks Moran #19 on the prestigious annual list, which honors exceptional female leaders shaping the future of banking and financial services.
Moran assumed the CEO role in May 2023 after joining Ledyard as President and Chief Banking Officer in March 2022. Under her leadership, Ledyard Bank—which manages approximately $1 billion in total assets—has modernized its operations and expanded digital capabilities while growing net income by $6 million in 2025.
Moran's path to the top began in fashion marketing before she earned a Master's in Finance and Executive MBA from the University of New Haven. Over 25 years in banking, she held senior executive roles at Provident Bank before joining Ledyard and pivoting the institution toward digital transformation and modern financial centers.
American Banker reporter Michael Sisk noted that "beyond strong numbers, Moran also focuses on top talent, a digital-forward approach, and making Ledyard more modern." Her strategic execution during volatile interest rates and economic uncertainty has positioned Ledyard as a blueprint for mid-sized community banks competing with national institutions.
The 2026 honorees faced unprecedented challenges. According to Holly Sraeel, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Content at American Banker Live Media, "What's striking about 2025 and coming into 2026 was the sheer number of things leaders had to get right at the same time—without a playbook."
Women at the highest levels navigated economic uncertainty, rapid advances in AI, and pressure to fundamentally rethink how their institutions operate. American Banker's 24th annual Most Powerful Women in Banking program evaluates executives on professional achievements, strategic execution, institutional impact, and community leadership.
Beyond financial metrics, Moran has emphasized leadership development and inclusion. In prior statements, she stressed that recognition reflects "the incredible colleagues, mentors, and teams I've had the privilege to work alongside" and reaffirmed her commitment to "leadership, inclusion, and the development of future generations of women leaders."
Ledyard Bank has launched initiatives like Women with Purpose, which provides capital access and support for women-owned small businesses. Nicole Martin Reimer, President & CEO of Granite United Way, noted that Moran's approach "exemplifies what it means to be a mission-driven, community-centered financial institution." Moran will be honored at the conference and gala on October 20–22, 2026, in New York City.
