Western Star Resources Expands Nevada Tungsten Exploration After Significant Soil Survey Results

Western Star Resources (CSE: WSR) has confirmed its first-ever public-company soil survey at the Rowland Tungsten Property in Elko County, Nevada returned a peak of 1,425 parts per million (ppm) tungsten trioxide — a result that validates the deposit's geology and sets up the next phase of exploration, according to Financial Post.
Tungsten is a critical mineral used in defence, electronics, and industrial cutting tools. The Rowland property is a past-producing site, meaning ore was extracted there before. Western Star is now the first public company to run systematic soil testing across it — and the numbers came back strong enough to immediately expand the hunt.
The survey covered multiple zones across the property. Soils over the main historical workings — called Rowland Main — returned up to 517 ppm and 504 ppm tungsten trioxide, according to The Observer. Those numbers independently confirm the known mineralised zone, meaning the soil chemistry lines up with where miners were digging decades ago.
The standout result of 1,425 ppm came from outside the historical workings. That matters because it points to mineralisation the old miners never touched. The anomaly sits on a magnetic gradient — a feature picked up by earlier geophysical surveys — which tightens the company's targeting model going into the next stage.
Western Star is pursuing what geologists call a skarn deposit — a type of mineral system formed when hot fluids react with limestone near an igneous intrusion. The strongest anomalies align with both the skarn geology and the magnetic gradients mapped earlier, giving the company high-confidence targets.
The alignment of soil chemistry and geophysics is exactly what exploration companies want to see before spending money on drilling. Western Star is now using this data to define drill targets — the specific spots where a rig would go into the ground to test for economic ore grades.
Western Star is not waiting. The company is mobilising an expanded, multi-stage soil program to begin shortly, according to Toronto Sun. The goal is to grow the known anomalies outward and connect the dots between the historical workings and the new high-grade hits sitting outside them.
The campaign is designed to move the project toward formal drill-target definition. That means more soil lines, wider coverage, and enough data to justify putting a drill rig on the ground. The company has not yet announced a drilling date or budget for that phase.
Tungsten is not mined in the United States at scale. China controls roughly 80% of global supply. That has made Western projects increasingly attractive as governments push to secure critical mineral supply chains. Nevada adds a further draw — it is one of the most mining-friendly jurisdictions in the world, with established infrastructure and permitting frameworks.
Rowland is a past-producer, which means historical data exists to guide exploration. That reduces early-stage risk. With soil anomalies now confirmed up to 1,425 ppm WO₃ and geophysics backing the targets, Western Star has moved from a land-holding story to an active exploration story — one with drill targets now coming into focus, per Cochrane Times Post.
