New Canada Post stamps celebrate historic quilts preserving personal and collective histories

New stamps celebrate the role of quilt-making in Canada and its role in preserving personal and collective histories. The stamp issue includes two historic quilts that are part of the permanent collections at the Royal Ontario Museum. The artist behind the Northern Night (1956) quilt was inspired by the aurora borealis and was sewn by members of the Simcoe County Arts and Crafts Association for a quilt contest. The Wreath of Flowers (1865) stamp booklet cover image was created by Catharine Gage Pettit in Fruitland, Ontario, and was gifted to the RoyalOnt Museum by Mrs. Audrey L. Livingstone. The stamps and collectibles will be available at canadapost.ca and select postal outlets across Canada beginning September 10.
