Alectra Utilities in Ontario has issued a warning about a new scam involving fraudulent callers and emails claiming to offer bill discounts or promotional incentives in exchange for large e-transfer payments. The scam involves impersonating Alectra representatives and urging customers to send immediate payments through e-transfers. These emails were sent from addresses not owned by Alectras. The utility does not offer bill reductions through unsolicited calls or emails and does not request payment by non-standard methods. Customers can verify account information using the phone number printed on their bill and report the incident to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 and contact local police if any money was lost.
