Afreximbank, ATDC Sign $500 Million Trade Facility

ATDC is described as a pan-African platform intended to close trade and market-intelligence gaps, in addition to improving market access and supporting AfCFTA implementation.
The facility is expected to reduce dependence on imports by promoting African goods and strengthening intra-African supply chains.
Afreximbank said the financing should improve the competitiveness of African products in international markets and expand the continent’s export base.
ATDC CEO Stewart Makura said the partnership would help address the need for “reliable systems that connect producers, processors, manufacturers and markets,” while strengthening the company’s ability to mobilise working capital and aggregate supply.
Afreximbank and the Africa Trading and Distribution Company signed a $500 million credit facility to move African goods across regional and global markets New National Star. The financing will pay for purchasing, storing, and shipping commodities, plus other trade costs. ATDC plans to use it in Egypt, Nigeria, Malawi, and Zimbabwe to connect African producers directly to buyers and reduce imports.
The deal supports the African Continental Free Trade Area by strengthening supply chains and boosting exports of African-made products ARISE TV. Afreximbank said the facility will make African goods more competitive globally while ATDC CEO Stewart Makura called it essential for linking "producers, processors, manufacturers and markets" through reliable systems.
The credit facility covers the full trade cycle — from buying and combining goods to warehousing and transport Real News Magazine. ATDC repays the loan using proceeds from selling the financed products, tying repayment directly to actual sales. This structure protects both lenders and borrowers by matching cash flow to real transactions.
ATDC operates as a pan-African platform closing gaps between African producers and buyers MSME Africa Online. The company starts in four countries but plans regional expansion. By building reliable trade corridors, ATDC aims to reduce Africa's import dependence and create direct paths from farms and factories to consumers across Africa and beyond.
The financing reduces reliance on imports by strengthening intra-African supply networks Afreximbank. Afreximbank said the facility improves how competitive African products are globally, expanding the continent's export base. Deeper regional value chains also promote value addition — meaning African countries can process and manufacture goods rather than just shipping raw materials.
