Trump Uses Government Funds and Direct Payments to Boost Republican Midterm Prospects

President Donald Trump is increasing his efforts to use taxpayer money and resources to help Republicans win the 2026 midterms. At the Republican midterm convention, he promised to pay every adult US citizen $5,000 if Republicans hold both the House and Senate. Since then, he has run over a dozen government-funded ads promoting himself and his achievements. These include exaggerated promises about major economic projects in key states holding crucial Senate races. The administration has also sent $500 checks to nearly 1 million Obamacare recipients and $90 for around 20 million senior citizens to help pay for their Medicare Part B premiums. Despite these efforts, there are concerns that they could backfire by putting a president that Americans dislike heavily disliked by them.
