Communities Across the United States and India Schedule Urgent Blood Donation Drives in October

Community blood drives are scheduled in several locations in early October. In Kanpur, the Indian Red Cross Society and Regional Sports Office will hold a voluntary donation camp at Green Park stadium on Oct. 1, beginning at 10 a.m. Mercer Island’s city, chamber of commerce and Bloodworks Northwest are hosting a drive Oct. 1–2 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center, with appointments available during daytime hours. A Bloodworks Northwest drive will take place Oct. 5 at Normandy Park City Hall from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; donors using the listed promotional code can earn bonus rewards points. The University of Arizona and American Red Cross will host a drive Oct. 6 at the campus store from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., offering donors a $15 e-gift card and directing donations to the local community.
The Kanpur camp will be inaugurated by district magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar, who also heads the local Indian Red Cross Society.
In Kanpur, donors should enter Green Park stadium through Gate 10B; the camp is in the park-side area on the first floor above the director’s pavilion.
Mercer Island connected its October drive to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, noting that transfusions can help replace blood cells damaged by chemotherapy.
The University of Arizona said the local blood supply is critically low and that donors can trace how their donations help people in Southern Arizona.
