Sri Lanka’s Department of Meteorology forecast showers at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts. Afternoon showers or thunderstorms are also possible in parts of Uva and the east, with forecasts listing areas including Batticaloa, Ampara, Polonnaruwa, Mullaitivu and Hambantota. The department urged the public to take precautions against lightning and localized strong winds during thunderstorms. Rough seas and stronger winds are also expected in some coastal waters, with waves potentially reaching 2 to 2.5 meters.
Showers or thundershowers are also forecast at times over the sea off the coast from Chilaw to Matara, passing Colombo and Galle.
Winds over the sea are expected to be southwesterly at 30–40 kmph.
At times, sea winds could strengthen to 50–60 kmph off Kankesanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar, and off Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
