Ormat Technologies Selected for Up to $35 Million in US Geothermal Funding

The U.S. Department of Energy selected two Ormat Technologies geothermal projects for up to approximately $35 million in funding, subject to completion of award negotiations. At Dixie Valley, Nevada, Ormat, SLB and the University of Utah could receive up to $25 million to design, drill, test and validate an enhanced geothermal system intended to demonstrate sustained circulation and commercially useful heat output. At Cove Fort, Utah, Ormat and the University of Utah could receive up to $9.7 million for drilling and subsurface characterization to better understand heat and fluid distribution in the rock formations. Ormat’s CEO said the awards will support next-generation geothermal technologies and further assessment of the Cove Fort resource.
