Ukraine Confirms Destruction of Russian Rubicon Drone Depots and Command Posts

Ukrainian military and analytical assessments describe Rubicon as one of the Russian army’s most effective drone units.
The Volnovakha strike came amid a broader campaign against Rubicon infrastructure: a storage facility in Khartsyzk was hit on Aug. 29–30, and strikes near Volnovakha and on UAV command posts near Novoselivka Persha and Dachne were reported on Sept. 22–23.
Other reported Sept. 30 strikes included a command-and-observation post in Lysychansk, a repair base in Starobilsk, and logistics depots in several settlements.
Ukraine destroyed storage facilities used by Russia's elite Rubicon drone unit in a Sept. 23 strike near Volnovakha, according to Ukrainian military sources. The operation is part of a broader campaign to cripple one of Russia's most effective unmanned aircraft units. Over the following week, Ukrainian forces hit additional Russian drone bases, command posts, and weapons depots across occupied eastern Ukraine.
The strikes target Russia's growing reliance on drones to attack Ukrainian military positions and civilian infrastructure. Ukraine's Defense Ministry said the operations aim to degrade Russia's drone capabilities, though officials did not release specific damage assessments for the latest targets.
Rubicon stands out as one of the Russian army's most lethal drone units. Ukrainian military and analytical assessments rank it among Russia's most effective unmanned aircraft operators. The unit has been a consistent threat to Ukrainian forces and civilian targets since Russia's 2022 invasion began.
Ukraine has targeted Rubicon infrastructure repeatedly. A storage facility in Khartsyzk was struck on Aug. 29–30. On Sept. 22–23, Ukrainian forces hit command posts near Novoselivka Persha and Dachne. The Sept. 23 Volnovakha depot strike represented a major blow to the unit's logistics network.
The Rubicon strikes are part of a larger Ukrainian offensive against Russian drone and weapons facilities. On Sept. 30 and overnight into Oct. 1, Ukrainian forces hit a drone storage and launch facility in occupied Donetsk. A command-and-observation post fell in Lysychansk, and a repair base was damaged in Starobilsk.
Additional targets included a rocket and artillery depot in Luhansk and a concentration of Russian military equipment in Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian sources also reported strikes on logistics depots across several settlements. The coordinated operations suggest a systematic effort to disrupt Russia's drone supply chains.
Russia has escalated drone attacks on Ukrainian targets. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of launching large-scale waves of attacks, with reports indicating 135 attack drones deployed in a single overnight operation against Kyiv and other cities.
Ukraine is countering by destroying up to 90% of conventional Russian drones, according to Zelenskyy. The country is accelerating deployment of interceptor drones designed to counter high-speed jet-powered unmanned aircraft. The Rubicon depot strikes represent Ukraine's strategy to strike at the source rather than only defend against incoming threats.
