Indian Appliance Makers Raise Prices by Up to Eight Percent Amid Rising Costs

Indian appliance and consumer-electronics makers plan to raise prices by about 5% to 8% from October 1, with air conditioners among the products affected and some washing machines, refrigerators and TVs also facing increases. Companies cite higher costs for metals, crude-derived materials and freight, as well as currency volatility amid the West Asia crisis; the move will be the industry’s third round of price hikes in 2026. Some manufacturers worry the increases could dampen festive-season demand, while others expect pre-season inventory bought at earlier prices to soften the impact.
Air-conditioners are expected to see increases of 5%–8%, while some washing machines, refrigerators and LED TVs are facing smaller increases of 3%–4%; some manufacturers are still assessing whether to raise prices.
Blue Star, Godrej Appliance, Haier, Daikin and Super Plastronics have announced or confirmed increases of 4%–10% across categories. Panasonic, by contrast, said it was still evaluating whether to raise prices.
Blue Star Managing Director B. Thiagarajan said the company’s AC and deep-freezer prices had already risen 5%–8%, adding: “All the commodity prices have been going up because of the war. Copper, steel and plastics have all become costlier.”
Sources also reported that LG and Bosch Home Comfort—which owns the Hitachi air-conditioner brand—had raised AC prices by around 5%.
