British Airways Announces Major Heathrow Lounge Redevelopment and Fleet-Wide Cabin Upgrades

The new Terminal 5 C Gates lounge is planned to include airfield views and one of the world’s longest airport lounge bars.
The Heathrow programme also includes redesigning every British Airways lounge at the airport over the coming years; meanwhile, lounge work is underway in Boston and Newark, with Geneva and San Francisco due to follow next year.
The First Class refresh is the first major overhaul of the long-haul cabin’s non-seat amenities since 2019, with updated bedding, pajamas, amenity kits and tableware. The new A380 First suites are also set to include 32-inch screens, personal wardrobes and mini-bars, alongside a return of buddy dining.
Each A380 retrofit replaces about 35,000 parts and takes roughly six to eight weeks out of service. To support the work, British Airways has reduced A380 operations by 28%, including dropping Los Angeles and Dubai routes.
British Airways is overhauling its London Heathrow lounges and retrofitting its entire A380 fleet with new seats and cabins in a bid to attract premium travelers. One Mile at a Time reported that a new Terminal 5 C Gates lounge is under construction and expected to open by the end of 2028, while the airline simultaneously redesigns its First Class experience with new suites featuring privacy doors and 32-inch screens.
The A380 retrofit is the most ambitious cabin refresh in BA's long-haul fleet since 2019. Travel and Tour World noted that each aircraft requires replacing about 35,000 parts and takes six to eight weeks to complete. The first retrofitted A380 is expected to enter service within months, with the full fleet upgrade continuing through 2028.
The centerpiece of BA's Heathrow overhaul is the new Terminal 5 C Gates lounge, which will feature airfield views and one of the world's longest airport lounge bars. Travel and Tour World reported that construction is underway, with the facility expected to welcome passengers by late 2028. The project is part of BA's wider commitment to redesign every lounge it operates at Heathrow over the coming years.
Beyond Heathrow, BA is refreshing lounges at key hubs globally. One Mile at a Time reported that work is already underway in Boston and Newark, with Geneva and San Francisco scheduled to follow next year. The Terminal 5 Arrivals lounge at Heathrow is also being completely redesigned as part of the transformation. A new First check-in facility at Terminal 3, developed with American Airlines, rounds out the Heathrow programme.
BA's A380 cabin refresh introduces game-changing First Class features. British Airways Media Centre said the new suites include 32-inch screens, personal wardrobes, mini-bars and privacy doors—the first major amenity overhaul since 2019. Passengers also get updated bedding, pajamas and tableware, along with the return of buddy dining for parties traveling together.
The Club Suite business cabin also gets a major upgrade with 106 new seats on the upper deck of each A380. One Mile at a Time reported that each retrofit replaces approximately 35,000 parts and takes six to eight weeks per aircraft. To manage the workload, BA has reduced A380 operations by 28%, including temporarily dropping flights to Los Angeles and Dubai.
