Volkswagen Unveils Revamped 2027 Atlas SUV With Updated Tech And Family-Focused Design

Volkswagen’s second-generation 2027 Atlas keeps the three-row SUV’s family-focused formula and similar overall dimensions while bringing updated styling, an evolved MQB platform, and a more thoroughly revamped cabin. Reviews highlight improved interior materials, expanded technology and driver-assistance features, and practical seating, including a second-row bench that can accommodate three child seats. The 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder carries over with updates, while the Atlas retains its familiar eight-speed automatic; some versions offer all-wheel drive. Reviewers generally see the redesign as a meaningful upgrade that should help the Atlas compete in the crowded U.S. SUV market, though one found the front-end styling unappealing and criticized the continued use of touch controls.
The 2027 Atlas is rated at 282 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque, and pricing starts at $41,610, according to MotorWeek.
The cabin offers an optional AirConsole gaming system that lets passengers use their phones as controllers on the infotainment screen; the games cannot be played while the vehicle is moving.
Volkswagen says the Atlas family has sold more than 1 million vehicles since the model’s 2017 introduction; SUVs now account for 80% of the brand’s U.S. sales, up from 14% a decade ago.
In Canada, the Atlas lineup comprises Comfortline, Highline and Execline R-Line trims, all with standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and a factory tow package.
