Oklahoma Advances Plan to Host Nuclear Energy Campuses, Eyeing Major Economic Growth

One challenge the program aims to address is the nation's growing radioactive waste problem. The administration is also weighing alternatives to Nevada's Yucca Mountain as a long-term disposal site.
Signing a memorandum of understanding is only the first step. The MOUs are nonbinding, meaning no state is locked into anything yet. The DOE will negotiate final agreements after selecting up to three states by the end of 2026, KSWO reported.
