Mercedes-Maybach Launches Limited Edition S 580e Plug-in Hybrid in India With 30 Units

Mercedes-Benz India launched the Mercedes-Maybach S 580e, a plug-in hybrid ultra-luxury sedan, with just 30 units available at ₹3.35 crore ex-showroom. Economic Times reports the car pairs a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 22 kWh battery for a combined output of 585 horsepower. The vehicle delivers up to 98 km of all-electric driving range and 34.48 kmpl fuel efficiency under WLTP testing.
This marks the first-ever plug-in hybrid under the Maybach brand in India. Fortune India notes the car caters exclusively to high-net-worth individuals seeking ultra-luxury with emissions-free city driving. The Maybach accounts for roughly 50% of Mercedes-Benz S-Class sales in India, making electrification critical for the brand's top tier.
The S 580e replaces the outgoing Maybach's 4.0-litre V8 with a downsized 3.0-litre inline-six paired to an electric motor. Autopunditz confirms the engine produces 443 horsepower, while the motor adds 160 hp, yielding 585 hp and 750 Nm of torque combined. The car sprints 0–100 km/h in 4.8 seconds with a 250 km/h top speed.
The 22 kWh battery delivers 98 km of pure-electric range at up to 140 km/h in EV mode. Motowing India reports the sedan supports 11 kW AC charging and up to 60 kW DC fast charging. Mercedes bundles an 11 kW home charger and access to its MB.CHARGE public network with every purchase.
The Maybach S 580e offers a bespoke four-seat First Class rear configuration with individual executive seats replacing the standard five-seat layout. Economic Times lists wireless charging, temperature-controlled cup holders, and motorized folding tables as standard. The cabin features active noise-cancelling technology ideal for silent EV cruising through congested Mumbai and Delhi streets.
Safety features include 15 airbags and Level 2 driver-assistance systems like Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Steering Assist. The car targets strictly chauffeur-driven customers in India's ultra-luxury segment, emphasizing rear-seat comfort over driver engagement.
Mercedes-Benz allocated just 30 units for the initial Indian rollout, signalling either extreme exclusivity or cautious market testing. At ₹3.35 crore, the Maybach commands a ₹97 lakh premium over the standard S-Class Manufaktur AMG Line. Fortune India observes the pricing reflects Maybach's positioning as a separate ultra-tier above the regular S-Class.
Industry analysts note that fuel economy—despite the 34.48 kmpl figure—matters little to Maybach buyers. The real appeal lies in the silent 98 km all-electric range for zero-emission city driving and the brand's commitment to electrifying its ultra-luxury portfolio. The move validates Mercedes' multi-powertrain strategy targeting customers hesitant to abandon combustion engines entirely.
