Odisha launches research grant and adds surveillance cameras to Similipal Tiger Reserve.

Odisha launched CM-GROW, a state grant intended to expand wildlife research and give conservation efforts a stronger scientific foundation, during its 2026 Wildlife Week celebration. The state also plans to add 300 surveillance cameras to Similipal Tiger Reserve, doubling its current camera network to help deter poaching and study wildlife. The event featured new ecotourism destinations and plans for future visitor facilities, alongside activities promoting ecological awareness.
The newly opened day-visit ecotourism sites included Peacock Valley and Nageswar Dam in Chandaka Wildlife Division, Karakhol in Chilika Wildlife Division, Sambalpur Zoo, and visitor amenities in Hirakud Wildlife Division.
Foundation stones were virtually laid for ecotourism projects at Rajhans in Chilika Wildlife Division, Rani Duduma in Koraput Forest Division, Badmul in Mahanadi Wildlife Division, Pentha in Rajnagar Wildlife Division, and new facilities at Nandankanan Zoological Park.
The event included screenings of two films, “The Biodiversity of Eastern Ghats” and “The Intertidal Ecosystem of Bhitarkanika,” highlighting regional ecosystems and biodiversity.
Wildlife Week is observed nationwide from October 2 to 8 each year, with an emphasis on conservation, research, ecological awareness, and responsible ecotourism.
