The Emmy Awards leave traditional broadcast for a six-year streaming deal with Amazon.

The Emmys Awards, the biggest showcase for the television industry, has been awarded the distribution rights to Amazon Prime Video, becoming the first major awards show exclusively on a streaming service. The event will begin streaming on Amazon next September as part of a six-year deal. The Emmys will be free and not require a Prime Video subscription, and Amazon will also make the event available globally. This move is part of broader trends in the television sector, with 49 percent of all US television viewing being on a stream, compared to 19.5 percent on broadcast. The Oscars will also be moved to YouTube in 2029.
