Authorities seize millions in smuggled gold across multiple international border operations.

India’s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 9.40 kilograms of foreign-origin gold worth about 14.81 crore rupees from three passengers arriving from Dubai at Mumbai airport. The gold had been ground into powder and mixed into roughly 33.5 kilograms of packaged foods, including milk powder, oats, flour and Nutella. The passengers were arrested and reportedly said they were working for the same organized smuggling syndicate; investigators are pursuing the wider network. Separately, Indian authorities seized about 12 kilograms of smuggled gold near the Bangladesh border, while Pakistan Customs reported a separate seizure of 6.162 kilograms of gold bars in Balochistan.
The Mumbai passengers were intercepted in the early hours of September 23, 2026, following specific intelligence, with operational assistance from the airport’s Air Intelligence Unit.
In the Bangladesh-border seizures, officials reported specific recoveries of about 3.15 kilograms near the India-Bangladesh Border Road and 1.16 kilograms at Hathkhola village in West Bengal.
Pakistan Customs said the 6.162 kilograms of gold bars were recovered on September 21 by its Field Enforcement Unit at Sheela Bagh, with assistance from the Frontier Corps; the gold was placed in a state warehouse in Quetta and an FIR was registered.
