Amit Shah Credits Ashok Singhal For Sacrifices Behind Ram Temple Construction

At an event in New Delhi marking former Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Ashok Singhal’s birth centenary, Home Minister Amit Shah credited Singhal’s sacrifices and organizing for the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the construction of the Ayodhya temple. Shah praised Singhal’s patriotism, simplicity and dedication, and said he regarded the temple campaign as a multigenerational struggle rather than a task he expected to see completed in his lifetime. Shah also said the temple was built after Narendra Modi became prime minister and that government hurdles were removed; he recalled Singhal’s activism and the hardships faced by movement participants. Prime Minister Modi separately paid tribute to Singhal during his Mann Ki Baat broadcast, citing his influence on the movement.
Shah said Singhal did not live to witness either the temple’s bhoomi pujan or its completion, because he saw the campaign as a struggle spanning generations rather than a project to finish in his lifetime.
Shah said a grand temple was built in Ayodhya within five years of Narendra Modi becoming prime minister in 2014, without a drop of blood being shed.
Recalling his own time in jail, Shah said that during the three years before he was cleared of charges, he frequently met Singhal at the VHP office in Delhi and was touched by his simplicity.
Shah said the image of Singhal with a bleeding head after police action during the temple movement, along with his dedication and work, would remain an inspiration to young people.
