Grand Jury Indicts Woman on 14 Felony Counts Over Shooting at Rihanna Home

A Los Angeles County grand jury indicted 36-year-old Ivanna Lisette Ortiz on 14 felony counts, including attempted murder, over the March 8 shooting at Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Beverly Crest home. Prosecutors allege Ortiz drove from Florida and fired at least 20 rounds from an assault-style rifle; gunfire struck an Airstream trailer occupied by the couple, the nursery where their children and nanny were, and a neighboring home. No one was injured. A judge found Ortiz competent to stand trial, and she pleaded not guilty through her attorney; bail was set at $2.6 million. The indictment replaced earlier charges and allows prosecutors to bypass a preliminary hearing; Ortiz could face life in prison if convicted. Her psychiatric evaluations remain sealed, and prosecutors have not disclosed a motive.
Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott said, “This is a person who wanted to kill Rihanna. Everyone else was collateral damage.”
Prosecutors said Rihanna’s mother and two staff members were also on the property during the shooting, and that Ortiz allegedly fired at a neighboring home where two people were inside.
Police said Ortiz was the only person in her car and was arrested during a traffic stop in Sherman Oaks, about three miles from Rihanna’s home.
Ortiz is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 28 for a pretrial hearing.
