Chipotle records an original song using instruments made entirely from fresh vegetables at Abbey Road.

Chipotle and the London Vegetable Orchestra recorded “From Ground to Sound,” an original song at Abbey Road Studios using instruments made entirely from fresh ingredients served in the chain’s restaurants. The unusual ensemble included corn flutes, jalapeño trumpets, a pepper-and-avocado-pit horn, lettuce percussion and an onion bass. Developing the instruments took three months of experimentation, and the musicians had to build, tune and record them while the produce was at peak ripeness and before its texture changed. A preview appeared in Chipotle’s 100 Creators campaign in August, and the company plans to use the composition in select campaigns.
The track is available on Spotify and Apple Music, and a film documenting the project was released on YouTube.
London Vegetable Orchestra musician Patrick Johns said the vegetables’ unpredictability shaped the process: “Part of the craft is learning not to force an ingredient to sound a certain way but to find the sound that’s already there and build the music around it.”
Beacon Street Studios created the composition with creative direction from agency KIDS, drawing inspiration from the energy of vegetables growing from seeds into food. KIDS founder Icaro Doria said the project began with the question of what Chipotle’s ingredients sound like.
