Air Force Awards Boeing $2.38 Billion Contract for 22 F-15EX Fighters

The U.S. Air Force awarded Boeing a $2.38 billion contract for 22 F-15EX fighters in the aircraft’s seventh production lot, bringing the total number under contract to 120. The award preserved all 22 planned aircraft despite inflation and production disruptions, including a 2025 strike, and met a deadline to commit congressional reconciliation funds before the start of fiscal 2027. The F-15EX is intended to replace aging F-15C/Ds, and the Air Force’s planned fleet has grown to 267 aircraft, with procurement also expected to help recapitalize the F-15E fleet. Boeing says it is working with the Air Force and the Department of War to increase production to two aircraft per month.
The reconciliation funding had to be contracted out by Oct. 1, the start of fiscal 2027; otherwise, the amount available would be cut by 8.3%.
Air and Space Forces Magazine estimated the contract works out to about $108 million per aircraft, excluding GE Aerospace F110-GE-129 engines, which the Air Force will buy separately.
Boeing said Lot 3 deliveries are underway, with the first aircraft, EX-22, delivered earlier in September; the company expects to continue those deliveries through the remainder of the year.
The F-15EX features advanced avionics, large-area displays, a digital backbone and increased survivability capabilities, according to the Air Force’s description of the aircraft.
Alongside the fighter award, the Department of War awarded Astronautics Corp. of America a separate $10 million contract to activate depot-level repair capability for the F-15EX engine fuel hydraulics display.
