New-look Connecticut football team defeated FCS-member Lafayette 56-7 in the season-opening game under first-year head coach Jason Candle. Kalieb Osborne threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, leading the Huskies to a 49-0 lead. Osborne was 19-of-26 passing for 265 yards and eight times for 90 yards, while Trey Cornist, Kenji Christian and Cyncir Bowers each had 40-plus yards rushing and a touchdown. Lafayette was outgained 671-209. The game was declared a no-contest due to weather. UConn has now added 87 players to its football program, returning only one starter.
