Amprius Secures $75 Million Defense Grant to Produce Advanced Drone Batteries

Amprius Technologies won a U.S. Department of War grant of up to $75 million to convert an existing domestic electric-vehicle battery production line into a facility making high-energy-density cells for Group 1–3 drones. The project is expected to cost about $100 million, including investments from Amprius and its South Korean manufacturing partner, and to be completed by early 2028 with annual capacity of up to 12 million cells. The effort is intended to expand U.S. production of advanced batteries and supply cells that meet domestic sourcing requirements under the National Defense Authorization Act.
