Heavy Rains and Flood Watches Issued Across Multiple Regions in North America

Several U.S. regions are forecast to see heavy rain and possible flooding this week. Around Omaha, rain is expected Tuesday through Thursday, with 1–3 inches likely and locally more than 5 inches possible in southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa; a flood watch is in effect Tuesday evening through Thursday evening. Iowa and other parts of the Midwest also expect repeated showers and storms, with rainfall totals and flood risks varying by location. A flood watch covers the western South Plains of Texas Tuesday and Wednesday as heavy rain and gusty winds move through. British Columbia is under rainfall warnings for a storm expected to bring 40–100 millimetres through Tuesday; rain is forecast later in the week in Chicago and Alabama, while Kanpur has turned sunnier after several wet days, with isolated storms still possible.
Environment Canada said the British Columbia storm was not expected to cause river flooding; any flooding was more likely to be localized around drainage. Metro Vancouver said it would monitor sewer systems, and officials warned that water could pool on roads and in low-lying areas.
Omaha had already recorded about 7 inches of rain at Eppley Airport in September, putting the month among the 10 wettest on record. The additional rain could move it into the top five; the September record is 13.75 inches, set in 1965.
An Iowa forecast described the location of the heaviest rain as uncertain, with the northwest potentially receiving the most. The forecaster said 1–2 inches over the week was reasonable, with higher totals possible where showers persist, followed by drier weather later in the week.
In Kanpur, Monday’s maximum temperature rose 5.3°C from Sunday to 31.1°C, while the minimum was 20.2°C. The IMD forecast partly cloudy skies with possible localized thunderstorms and strong winds over the next three days; the monsoon’s withdrawal was also expected to begin as weather systems weakened.
