BMW Unveils Eighth-Generation G50 3 Series and M350 xDrive for 2027

BMW is scheduled to unveil its eighth-generation 3 Series, the G50, on September 30, 2026, with production expected to begin in November and sales in the first half of 2027. The redesigned sedan adopts Neue Klasse styling shared with the electric i3, while the 3 Series lineup is reported to include a 255-hp 330 and a 437-hp M350 xDrive; the petrol models have mild-hybrid assistance but no all-electric driving mode. The M350’s turbocharged inline-six, standard all-wheel drive and rear-drive Drift mode distinguish it from the outgoing model. The separate electric i3 sedan is reported to offer up to 463 hp and a claimed range of up to 468 miles. Reports give different U.S. pricing: one lists starting prices of $49,900 for the 330, $61,500 for the i3 and $65,900 for the M350, while another says final pricing has not been announced.
BMW design chief Adrian van Hooydonk said the design team aimed to balance future relevance with the brand’s history. The new sedan’s shark-nose front recalls the E24 6 Series, while its proportions evoke the BMW 2002.
The M350 is rated at 428 lb-ft of torque and is expected to reach 60 mph in 3.9 seconds—quicker than the outgoing M340i’s reported 4.1-to-4.4-second range. Its 48-volt mild-hybrid system includes a 17-hp motor between the transmission and crankshaft.
The gas 3 Series is slightly longer, narrower and lower than the electric i3: 0.2 inch longer, 0.6 inch narrower and one inch lower, with a wheelbase 1.5 inches shorter.
The i3 is reported to add up to 208 miles of range in 10 minutes when connected to a 400-kW DC fast charger.
