Accomplished scientist Dr. P. Srihari takes charge as new director of Hyderabad Research Centre Imarat.

Dr. P. Srihari has assumed charge as director of the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad. An accomplished DRDO scientist, he previously worked on the Light Combat Aircraft’s multi-mode radar, long-range tracking radar, interceptor missile systems and India’s ballistic missile defense program. He was also part of the core team behind the March 2019 anti-satellite test and led the MRSAM project for the Indian Air Force, whose first firing unit was inducted in 2021. Srihari holds degrees from Nagarjuna University, PSG College of Technology and Osmania University and has received several DRDO awards for scientific achievement.
Srihari began his DRDO career as a Scientist ‘B’ at the Electronics & Radar Development Establishment in Bengaluru in October 1992, after completing the Mechanical Engineering Fellowship Course.
During his early radar work, he designed and developed a multilayer slotted-array antenna; the technology was later used in DRDO programmes involving the Advanced Light Helicopter and Battlefield Surveillance Radar.
While working on the Ballistic Missile Defence programme, Srihari helped develop the Kolar Radar Range and designed the Divert and Attitude Control System for interceptor missiles. A cold-gas reaction-control system developed under his work was used in target missiles during interceptor trials.
Before becoming RCI director, Srihari served as programme director for Programme Air Defence in 2021 and Programme Air Defence/BMD in 2022, according to DRDO.
Srihari has published more than 10 papers on missile systems and has received the Agni Award for Excellence in Self-Reliance, the DRDO Award for Pathbreaking Research and the Scientist of the Year award.
