Armenia and Rosatom discuss proposals for new nuclear facilities and plant life extension.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev discussed proposals for new nuclear power facilities in Armenia, including large-, medium- and small-capacity units. Pashinyan said Armenia is considering proposals from international partners and will decide based on economic factors, cost, quality, safety, timing and guarantees. They also reviewed work to extend the operating life of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant’s second unit through 2036; Rosatom said the first phase is complete and the unit has been authorized to continue operating. Armenian and Russian officials separately met to review further progress on the plant-life extension project.
Rosatom presented details of its proposals and possible mechanisms for building a new nuclear plant and small- and medium-capacity units in Armenia.
The fifth meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on extending the second unit’s operating life was held in Yerevan. It included Rosatom First Deputy CEO Kirill Komarov and representatives of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and Armenian and Russian industry organizations.
Rosatom chief Alexey Likhachev’s meeting with Pashinyan also included Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan.
