Binance Plans 24/5 Commodity Perps Trading

The affected contracts include XAUUSDT for gold, XAGUSDT for silver, CLUSDT for WTI crude, BZUSDT for Brent crude and NATGASUSDT for natural gas.
Under the revised schedule, the previous one-hour daily maintenance pause will be eliminated, while trading will halt from 21:00 UTC on Friday until 21:00 UTC on Sunday.
The contracts are provided by Nest Exchange Limited, a Binance affiliate regulated as a Recognized Investment Exchange by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Abu Dhabi Global Market.
Unlike conventional futures, the products have no expiry date, support leveraged trading and are settled in Tether’s USDT; Binance initially launched the offering with precious metals before expanding into energy products.
The schedule change is being characterized as part of broader derivatives-market standardization, with crypto exchanges facing increasing compliance demands from regulators worldwide.
Binance will stop 24/7 trading for commodity perpetual contracts on September 15, shifting to a 24/5 schedule that halts trading over weekends. The change affects gold, silver, and crude oil contracts, aligning the crypto exchange with traditional futures markets that close on weekends. Tron Weekly reported the move eliminates synthetic weekend pricing and aims to improve weekday liquidity while supporting regulatory alignment.

The shift reflects broader standardization in crypto derivatives markets as exchanges face stricter global regulatory demands.
Traditional financial markets close on weekends, but crypto exchanges have operated around the clock. Binance's move brings commodity perpetuals closer to standard futures trading hours. Tron Weekly noted the change removes "synthetic weekend pricing," which occurs when crypto platforms artificially price assets during market closures. This restoration of normal weekend gap risk aligns with how traditional financial instruments behave.
Five commodity perpetual contracts will move to 24/5 trading: gold (XAUUSDT), silver (XAGUSDT), WTI crude oil (CLUSDT), Brent crude (BZUSDT), and natural gas (NATGASUSDT). Unlike standard futures contracts with expiration dates, these perpetual contracts have no end date and support leveraged trading up to 100x. All positions settle in USDT, Tether's stablecoin. Binance initially launched precious metals before expanding into energy products.
Crypto derivatives markets face mounting compliance demands from regulators worldwide. Binance's commodities are provided by Nest Exchange Limited, a Binance affiliate regulated as a Recognized Investment Exchange by Abu Dhabi's Financial Services Regulatory Authority. The weekend closure demonstrates how crypto platforms increasingly adopt traditional financial standards to satisfy regulators. This broader trend reflects the industry's move toward mainstream legitimacy.
Starting September 15 at 21:00 UTC, traders will no longer access commodity perpetuals during weekends. The previous daily one-hour maintenance pause will disappear, replaced by a continuous two-day halt from Friday evening to Sunday evening. Traders holding positions through the weekend should note this gap eliminates the ability to adjust or close positions for 48 hours. The shift takes effect in less than two weeks, giving users time to adjust trading strategies.
