Nevada Gas Prices Rise 18 Cents Weekly

U.S. gasoline demand increased from 8.55 million barrels per day to 8.79 million barrels per day over the past week, while domestic gasoline supply and production also rose.
Costco has limited members to two units of motor oil per week, while one Texas auto shop said its wholesale motor-oil costs had nearly doubled—from roughly $3–$4 per quart to $6–$7.
More than 40% of U.S. synthetic motor oil is imported from the Middle East, and the shortage reportedly began in May after refineries prioritized gasoline production.
GTA gasoline prices are forecast to rise to 190.9 cents per litre before falling about 12 cents on Friday, partly as stations switch from summer gasoline to winter blend; analyst Dan McTeague advised motorists to wait until Friday to refuel.
GTA diesel prices are expected to rise by 14 cents overnight to 268.9 cents per litre, with McTeague warning that higher diesel costs could raise food prices because diesel powers trucks, trains, aircraft and maritime shipping.
Nevada's average gasoline price jumped 18 cents in one week to $5.19 per gallon, with Reno hitting $5.56 and Las Vegas at $5.15. AAA reports the national average climbed 16 cents to $4.43—dangerously close to this year's record of $4.56—as crude oil hovers near $100 a barrel amid Middle East supply disruptions.
The price surge reflects both higher demand and constrained oil supplies. U.S. gasoline demand rose from 8.55 million barrels per day to 8.79 million barrels per day over the past week, while motor-oil shortages are forcing auto shops to raise oil-change fees and limit purchases. Costco restricted members to two units of motor oil per week as wholesale costs nearly doubled.
Crude oil averaging around $100 per barrel is the main driver behind national and regional gas-price increases. Volatility around the Strait of Hormuz—a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments—has rattled energy markets and kept prices elevated. The national average now sits just 13 cents below the 2025 yearly high, signaling continued upward pressure at the pump.
Middle East supply disruptions have created a severe motor-oil shortage, since more than 40% of U.S. synthetic motor oil comes from that region. AAA reports one Texas auto shop's wholesale motor-oil costs jumped from $3–$4 per quart to $6–$7. Costco capped motor-oil purchases at two units per customer weekly to manage inventory constraints.
Auto shops are passing these costs to customers by raising oil-change fees. The shortage began in May when Middle East refineries prioritized gasoline production over synthetic oil, tightening supplies globally. With oil-change prices climbing, routine vehicle maintenance now costs significantly more.
In the Greater Toronto Area, gasoline is forecast to rise briefly to 190.9 cents per litre before dropping about 12 cents on Friday as stations switch to winter-blend fuel. However, diesel faces worse pressure. Analyst Dan McTeague warned GTA diesel could spike 14 cents overnight to 268.9 cents per litre, with no relief in sight.
Higher diesel costs carry serious economic consequences since trucks, trains, aircraft, and ships depend on diesel fuel. McTeague cautioned that elevated diesel prices will likely raise food and goods costs for consumers across Canada as transportation expenses climb.
U.S. gasoline demand spiked from 8.55 million barrels per day to 8.79 million barrels per day over one week—a jump of 240,000 barrels daily. While domestic gasoline supply and production also rose, the gains haven't kept pace with surging demand. Crude-oil market turbulence continues limiting refineries' ability to boost output quickly.
