NVIDIA Enhances Agent Toolkit with PhysicsNeMo and CUDA-X for Autonomous Chip Design

NVIDIA has expanded its Agent Toolkit with two major additions: re-architected PhysicsNeMo libraries and updated CUDA-X libraries, according to NVIDIA News. The new tools let software developers build autonomous AI engineers capable of running physics simulations, accelerated math solvers, and quantum chemistry calculations.
The expansion also includes NVIDIA's Nemotron 3 Ultra agent from NVIDIA Research, a model built to help enterprises create customizable AI agents for chip design and verification, Yahoo Finance reported.
NVIDIA took its existing PhysicsNeMo framework and completely rebuilt it as a set of agent-friendly libraries, according to NVIDIA News. The goal is to give AI agents real physics skills — meaning the agents can simulate how heat, fluid, or stress behaves in a product before it is built.
This matters for engineers who design cars, aircraft, or chips. Instead of running simulations manually, an AI agent can now handle the physics math on its own. That could cut design cycles from weeks to days, Market Screener noted.
The updated CUDA-X libraries add two new skill sets for engineering agents: accelerated solvers and quantum chemistry capabilities, according to Yahoo Finance. Accelerated solvers crunch large math problems faster by using GPU hardware instead of traditional CPUs.
Quantum chemistry tools let agents model how molecules behave at the atomic level. That opens doors for drug discovery, materials science, and advanced semiconductor design. NVIDIA says developers can now connect these skills directly to their AI agents through the Agent Toolkit, NVIDIA News reported.
Major chip design and engineering software companies are already using these tools. Cadence, Siemens, and Synopsys — three of the biggest names in electronic design automation — are integrating NVIDIA's accelerated computing and agentic AI into their workflows, according to NVIDIA News.
Their focus covers chip design, verification, packaging, and full systems engineering. These are complex, labor-intensive processes. AI agents that can handle physics and math tasks autonomously could dramatically reduce the time and cost involved, Market Screener reported.
The Nemotron 3 Ultra agent, developed by NVIDIA Research, is a key piece of the expanded toolkit. It is designed specifically for chip design and verification tasks — areas where engineers spend enormous amounts of time catching errors before a chip goes to manufacturing, Yahoo Finance reported.
Chip verification alone can account for more than 70% of total design time in the semiconductor industry. By deploying a customizable AI agent trained for this work, companies can accelerate that process significantly. NVIDIA says enterprises can tailor Nemotron 3 Ultra to fit their specific design environments, according to Quiver Quant.
