Leaked Audio Shows Ken Paxton Admitting GOP Midterm Convention Harmed Party

Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton has stated that the controversial decision to hold a controversial GOP midterm convention, dubbed "Trump-a-palooza," may have hurt the GOP. The New York Times has published audio of Paxton's private complaint to conservative donors and lobbyists that the convention did more harm than good. However, publicly available data indicates that the GOP's numbers have clearly trended in the wrong direction since the convention. Major polling aggregators including Nate Silver and FiftyPlusOne have reported that Democrats have seen a significant increase in their generic ballot numbers since the event. Additionally, a recent survey by Siena College and Marist College showed Democratic state Rep. James Talarico leading by 6 points. Despite these efforts, Paxton still has poor image ratings and is still underwater in the Texas Southern poll.
