India Launches Special Campaign 6.0 Nationwide to Enhance Cleanliness and Efficiency

Union Minister Jitendra Singh inaugurated Special Campaign 6.0, a government-wide drive running October 2–31 to improve cleanliness, reduce pending work, clear obsolete records, use office space efficiently and dispose of electronic waste and other redundant materials. More than 100 institutions, including science organizations, are participating. Singh said the previous campaign generated 5,500 crore rupees for the government, with electronic scrap a significant contributor. Launch activities included volunteer cleanup work, tree planting, beginning the removal of old records and recognition of sanitation workers.
Singh traced the cleanliness initiative to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2014 call from the Red Fort, saying it grew into a people’s movement and then an institutional practice across government offices.
The campaign’s implementation phase was preceded by a preparatory phase during September, when ministries and departments prepared for the October drive.
Singh said the initiative now links cleanliness with administrative efficiency and resource management, including disposal of e-files and redundant furniture as well as old files and electronic scrap.
At CSIR headquarters, the programme included a Swachhata signature campaign and a review of obsolete records and scrap, alongside efforts to improve workplaces and manage office space more effectively.
