Philadelphia area universities receive failing grades in national free speech rankings.

A national ranking by the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE) has found that Philadelphia-area universities are failing to create a healthy free speech climate on campus. This comes amid high political pressure from the Trump administration and efforts by some universities to change policies. The University of Pennsylvania landed near the bottom of the nationwide rankings, with an overall F grade and low scores on students' comfort with expressing ideas and self-censorship. The report surveyed about 63,000 students at more than 260 universities across the country. Nationwide, the average overall grade was a D-, the highest in seven years, with only 24 schools receiving a C or better. The top-ranked school was The University Chicago, followed by Claremont McKenna College.
