India Appoints Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as New Air Force Chief

India has appointed Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit as the 29th Chief of the Air Staff, effective October 31, 2026, when he will succeed Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh. A fighter pilot, experimental test pilot and qualified flying instructor, Dixit has nearly four decades of service and more than 3,500 flying hours across aircraft including the Tejas, Mirage-2000, Jaguar and MiG variants. He has served in key operational and strategic roles, participated in operations and exercises including Safed Sagar, Rakshak, Cope India and Sindoor, and is expected to continue advancing India’s indigenous aviation programs.
Dixit is due to serve as air chief until December 31, 2028, according to the Hindustan Times.
His senior assignments have included Chief of Integrated Staff to the Chiefs of Staff Committee (CISC) at HQ IDS and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Central Air Command.
Earlier in his career, Dixit led technical evaluations and field trials of six competing aircraft for the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft programme, assessing performance, radar, electronic-warfare systems and weapons.
Dixit is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College in Bangladesh and the National Defence College.
