Amritsar Police Busts Three Drug and Arms Networks, Arresting Five Suspects

Police identified the five arrested as Krish Gold, Kunal Mehta alias Kannu, Robin, Jaskaran Singh alias Jass and Jobanpreet Singh alias Joban. Officials said Jaskaran had five prior cases registered against him under the NDPS and Arms Acts.
The seized weapons comprised eight .30-bore PX-3 pistols, three other .30-bore pistols, one 9mm Glock and one other 9mm pistol, alongside 22 live cartridges. Police said two .30-bore pistols were seized from Krish Gold and Kunal Mehta, with three more pistols and 1.227 kg of heroin recovered after Kunal’s disclosure.
A separate police operation the previous day reportedly led to the arrest of a woman, her husband and her brother, who allegedly used a leased guava orchard about 500 metres from the India-Pakistan border fence as a site to retrieve drug and weapons consignments dropped by drones.
The Amritsar arrests were announced hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah was due to address the concluding event of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’ in Jalandhar, a campaign that had covered all 117 Assembly constituencies and was presented as a mobilisation ahead of the 2027 state election.
Amritsar police dismantled three drug-trafficking and illegal-arms networks in separate operations, arresting five people and seizing 13 pistols, 3.267 kilograms of heroin, and 22 live cartridges, Hindustan Times reported. The busts came as investigators trace the suspects' connections to sources, intended recipients, and possible handlers based overseas.
One suspect, Jaskaran Singh, had five prior cases registered against him under narcotics and weapons laws, Tribune India noted. Police also impounded a vehicle allegedly used in smuggling operations during the crackdown.
The five arrested individuals were identified as Krish Gold, Kunal Mehta (alias Kannu), Robin, Jaskaran Singh (alias Jass, 36), and Jobanpreet Singh (alias Joban), Hindustan Times reported. Police recovered eight .30-bore PX-3 pistols, three additional .30-bore pistols, one 9mm Glock, and one other 9mm pistol from the suspects.
Two .30-bore pistols came from Krish Gold and Kunal Mehta's possession. Following Kunal's disclosure, police recovered three more pistols and 1.227 kilograms of heroin from a separate location, Newsable said.
In a separate operation, police arrested a woman, her husband, and her brother who allegedly leased a guava orchard 500 meters from the India-Pakistan border fence, New Indian Express reported. The orchard served as a retrieval site for drug and weapons consignments dropped by drones.
The location's proximity to the border suggested an organized smuggling route from across the frontier. Police are investigating whether the network operated with foreign-based coordination or handlers.
The arrests were announced hours before Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to address the closing event of the BJP's 'Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra' (Drug-Free Punjab Campaign) in Jalandhar, New Indian Express reported. The campaign had covered all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab.
The initiative is presented as a mobilization effort ahead of Punjab's 2027 state elections. The timing of the police busts underscores the government's focus on combating drug trafficking in the state.
