Meta Introduces Gen 3 Ray-Ban AI Glasses Alongside New Camera-Free Audio Models

Meta introduced Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, starting at $449, with a slimmer fit, up to nine hours of battery life, a six-microphone system and a customizable button for Meta AI. The camera-equipped glasses retain the previous generation’s 12-megapixel camera and 3K video, while adding Aviator and Zena frames alongside Wayfarer. Meta also launched Ray-Ban Meta Audio, a separate camera-free model starting at $349, designed for music, calls and hands-free AI, with up to 12 hours of battery life and additional charge from its case. The announcements highlight Meta’s push to offer smart glasses for both hands-free capture and audio-focused use.
Meta says the Gen 3 microphone array reduces background noise by more than 90%; the system has six microphones, up from five on the previous generation. The noise-reduction figure is the company’s claim, and independent testing is still needed.
The Gen 3 collection offers 27 color-and-lens combinations, and its flexible, professionally adjustable temple tips are intended to provide a more personalized fit.
Meta’s Audio glasses weigh 43 grams, and their charging case is claimed to provide up to 48 additional hours of power. Meta said they would ship October 13, with preorders opening September 23.
Meta says Gen 3 users can use Meta AI hands-free to ask about what they see, get local recommendations, translate conversations in real time, check messages and set reminders.
